- Construction of a Detached House in Swiss Cottage, London
This project was the construction of a detached property for Jimmy Carr the comedian. This scheme involved a traditional construction of Flemish bond brickwork with cavity and blockwork inner wall.
The challenge with this project was that there was an existing facade that had to remain and therefore we had to match new brickwork with existing brickwork that was over a hundred years old. Our site Foreman Martin Rogers had to ensure that the gauging of our new brickwork tied in with the existing without looking like it was new. We managed to achieve this by taking various levels of the existing brickwork and building new brickwork to suite . We also raked out the existing pointing and Weather Struck pointed the new and old brickwork together which makes the house looks very effective.
There was also quite a considerable amount of blockwork in the basement which had to be loaded by crane, this meant careful programming with site management and the other trades on site to ensure that everyone had sufficient crane use.
